The Benefits Of Green Office Furniture

By Oliver Harris

With more pollution in the environment and rapid deforestation, people have awakened to the critical situation and are turning towards preserving nature. Environmental knowledge has found its new advocate in a drive towards green office furniture that a lot of businesses now prefer.

A great way to preserve earth's fragile ecology is to go for modular offices. Much less material is needed to set up such offices, and thus they help protect the felling of trees. Modular offices save not only the trees but also the money that a business has to put in for a new office. It's cheaper to make modular offices, and being small in area, they also result in a lower rent for the company.

An office that uses reusable or second hand furniture makes a great contribution towards ecological conservation. This kind of furniture doesn't need many modifications, and is suitable enough to fulfil the requirements of most offices. The economic downslide has resulted in several businesses going out of work, and they are now selling off their furniture at surprisingly low prices, and this opportunity can be lapped up by companies looking to build a new office. The mineral and forest resources of the earth are preserved by the use of second hand furniture, without having to make any sacrifices in terms of quality.

There are ways to ensure that the furniture being made use of is green even if it is brand new. The new furniture must be manufactured from reusable materials and should be manufactured near the office site so that long-distance transportation is not required, which otherwise can cause potentially harmful emissions.

Make sure that lethal chemicals such as CFCs and HCFCs, which cause tremendous damage to the ozone layer, have not been made use of in the production of foams. The wood for the furniture should have come from trees, which can be re-sown and grown quickly, thus minimizing the damage to the forests. Finally, purchasing more furniture than you require must be avoided and you must be frugal in your use of resources.

The Techniques Used By Pest Control Companies To Kill

By David Darby

One thing is for sure, and that is if you own a home, you will encounter pests sooner or later. It could be in the form of fighting of ants or fighting of rodents. It is at these crucial junctures that homeowners can opt between two choices. They could either do it themselves or utilize the service of a pest control company. In this article we are going to take a look at how to hire pest control companies and what process flow they utilize.

So the first thing that you should bear in mind is that some pest control companies will utilize chemicals while other companies will utilize organic compounds. Depending on how you feel against chemicals or organic methods will determine what type of company you choose. The pest control company I run has chosen to use both ways to accommodate both type of people.

Now to take a closer look at the various options they utilize let's take a look at how they get rid of ants in particular. Now a pest control company will utilize a varied strategy in getting rid of ants than what you will do yourself. The significant difference is they know how to eradicate them. And how to completely kill of ants is to find and eradicate the ant hill. That is the main plan of attack in my ant control service. It is the best and only option so that you will be ant free.

Now when you have mice on your premise, removing them gives you several choices. But a good pest control service will use two options together.

Those two options are using traps and using poisons. From our work as a rodent control service this is what has worked best. Mainly because what the traps don't get the poison cleans up after. Plus with poisons the rodents will bring the poison to the nest which will kill more mice.

As you can see there are always a lot of methods to fight pests. But the options given to you here will provide you the best chance to get one over the pests.

disappearing cell phone fees

The company behind the magicJack, the cheap Internet phone gadget that's been heavily promoted on TV, has made a new version of the device that allows free calls from cell phones in the home, in a fashion that's sure to draw protest from cellular carriers.

The new magicJack uses, without permission, radio frequencies for which cellular carriers have paid billions of dollars for exclusive licenses.

YMax Corp., which is based in Palm Beach, Fla., said this week at the International Consumers Electronics Show that it plans to start selling the device in about four months for $40, the same price as the original magicJack. As before, it will provide free calls to the U.S. and Canada for one year.

The device is, in essence, a very small cellular tower for the home.

The size of a deck of cards, it plugs into a PC, which needs a broadband Internet connection. The device then detects when a compatible cell phone comes within 8 feet, and places a call to it. The user enters a short code on the phone. The phone is then linked to the magicJack, and as long as it's within range (YMax said it will cover a 3,000-square-foot home) magicJack routes the call itself, over the Internet, rather than going through the carrier's cellular tower. No minutes are subtracted from the user's account with the carrier. Any extra fees for international calls are subtracted from the user's account with magicJack, not the carrier.

According to YMax CEO Dan Borislow, the device will connect to any phone that uses the GSM standard, which in the U.S. includes phones from AT&T Inc. and T-Mobile USA. At a demonstration at CES, a visitor's phone with a T-Mobile account successfully placed and received calls through the magicJack. Most phones from Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp. won't connect to the device.

Borislow said the device is legal because wireless spectrum licenses don't extend into the home.

AT&T, T-Mobile and the Federal Communications Commission had no immediate comment on whether they believe the device is legal, but said they were looking into the issue. CTIA — The Wireless Association, a trade group, said it was declining comment for now. None of them had heard of YMax's plans.

Borislow said YMax has sold 5 million magicJacks for landline phones in the last two years, and that roughly 3 million are in active use. That would give YMax a bigger customer base than Internet phone pioneer Vonage Holdings Corp., which has been selling service for $25 per month for the better part of a decade. Privately held YMax had revenue of $110 million last year, it says.

U.S. carriers have been selling and experimenting with devices that act similarly to the wireless magicJack. They're called "femtocells." Like the magicJack, they use the carrier's licensed spectrum to connect to a phone, then route the calls over a home broadband connection. They improve coverage inside the home and offload capacity from the carrier's towers.

But femtocells are complex products, because they're designed to mesh with the carrier's external network. They cost the carriers more than $200, though some sell them cheaper, recouping the cost through added service fees. YMax's magicJack is a much smaller, simpler design.

How The Cost Of Replacing Windows Is Less Then You Might Think

By Rob Sharpton

Paying bills and other expenses is the hardest thing to do for most people. But they also wonder if the cost can bring them enough benefit to offset the cost. Also if it does cost a lot of money sometimes they don't want to do it because of that. But there can be some expenses where the initial price is costly but in the long run you will see that the price you paid will be returned.

Replacement windows are one of these acquisitions. In this article we are going to discuss some of the reasons why buying replacement windows will be a good thing to spend money.

The price is what worries people when trying to buy replacement windows. That is the main concern for people who come into my San Diego replacement windows company. Sometimes if they feel it is too expensive they won't do it.But that would be a mistake for a lot of reasons.

There is one reason right off the bat to show that it is a mistake to think that way. That one reason is the money they will save in energy costs. And that savings would not be a one time happening. As long as the windows are still installed in the house they will save on energy. That is what I try to point out to my clients of my San Diego glass company service. Once they realize that they would see that buying replacement windows is not as expensive as it seems to be.

Finally another reason why it isn't so expensive is the rise in home value you can experience when you replace your windows. I like to show to my customers of my San Diego frameless glass shower company how much homes with replaced windows increase in value. It is another reason for many people to get their windows replaced.

Hopefully you would realize that buying replacement energy efficient windows are not that expensive because of the benefit that it can bring to you.

Beautiful Counter Tops That Are Eco Friendly

By Jess Hendrich

Kitchens and food preparation areas have horizontal work areas called counter tops. Commonly, cabinets are installed above & below. Many different materials, such as stone, to wood, to plastic, to tiles, and even steel, among numerous others, can be used in making counter tops.

But because of the growing awareness for the environment, there are now materials for counter tops that are not only durable, but also great looking & environmentally friendly. So if you're looking for a new counter top and are leaning to materials that's a little kinder on the environment than laminate or stone, there are now several alternatives available that are created from recycled products, can be recycled at end-of-life -- or are both recycled & recyclable -- or are made from renewable resources.

Here are a few of the greener counter top alternatives:

1. Stainless steel - Stainless steel counter tops consist of, on average, 75% recycled steel and can contain up to 100% recycled content. They are non-porous & antibacterial, and emit no VOCs. However, they do show fingerprints & scratch quickly.

2. Recycled glass - There are many recycled glass counter tops on the market place these days. Each kind has their own unique charm.

3. BioGlass - This item is of 100% recyclable and recycled glass. It is available in 6 natural colours & can be used for backsplashes or counter tops.

4. Alkemi - This material is made from 35% "fine flake aluminum milling scrap," a post-industrial waste product. You can choose from 12 colours and three different surface treatments (textured, classic and honed).

5. Paperstone - It is a material made from either 100% post-consumer cardboard or 100% post-consumer office paper mixed with a non-petroleum based resin. It comes in a variety of colours and can be used for as kitchen & bathroom counter tops.

6. IceStone - This is made in Brooklyn, New York. The product uses 100% glass which is otherwise bound for landfill, mixed with concrete to create a surface that is twice as durable as marble. Like a stone product, it does need to be sealed on a regular basis. You can get it in a variety of colours.

College Logo Area Rugs

By Corey Barens

The start of every school term brings to mind another school year - assignments, research papers, exams and school clubs. It may be a dreadful thought to put the student life to gear yet again, but what gives it a boost is the school spirit that every student must feel when supporting the school's sports teams. Cheering for one's team playing against other schools is a serious matter. NCAA tournaments for instance generate such a huge following that it would be safe to assume that students spend a big chunk of their allowance on game tickets, parking, travel expenses (when alma mater is playing in another's home court) and souvenirs. The month of March is known as "March Madness" when the Regional and Final Four games are held.

Team loyalty greatly benefits the souvenir industry. With fans willing to buy anything and everything to support their favored teams, there are never enough T-shirts, caps, mugs, area rugs, towels, pens and other things displaying a school's color, team's logo or a player's name.

A very creative way to express a fan's loyalty is to show it right off, loud and clear, in a visible place. It can be his office, dorm room or home. And what better way than to lay out an area rug with the team logo or name for all to see? Now, that would be an undeniable truth of a fan's claim of devotion.

Rugs with team logos on them are usually printed in bright colors with standout type designs. They are definitely attention-getters and immediately become a conversation piece with first-time visitors. After all, how can you miss a three-foot white "T" on a bright orange background placed in the middle of the floor right where you walk? (The white "T" and orange background is the logo of the University of Tennessee Volunteers.)

The usual sizes of an area rug are 4' x 6' to 5' x 8', therefore using one for any room is possible. Ordering a bigger rug if needed is also feasible.

Souvenir items are sold in sport's venues, sporting goods store and the team's own souvenir booth or shop. However, area rugs may not be as widely available as the other souvenir items. They are obtainable in many Internet sources such as online stores, direct suppliers or collectors selling their goods online.

Area rugs as souvenirs are real prized possessions for die-hard fans. It's hard to miss out on these decorative items.
